Meet our Coaches

Patrick "Paddy" Mc Grath

Paddy has been coaching and developing high school and collegiate hammer throwers from all over New York State for over fifteen years. Originally from Ireland, he competed for Manhattan College in New York City. Following his collegiate career, Paddy went on to compete for Ireland at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. His personal best with the 16 lb hammer is 77.49 m. 

Since 2003 Paddy has been working to develop youth and junior hammer throwers from all around the tri-state area. The NY Hammer Academy has produced countless national champions, qualifiers, and record holders at the high school and collegiate level under Paddy's guidance. His most notable athlete being Rudy Winkler, who won the 2016 Olympic Trials and competed at the Olympics in Rio, Brazil. 

Paddy currently works in the NY Metro Area and coaches the New York Hammer Academy with Kevin Sullivan.

Kevin Sullivan 

Kevin Sullivan is a four time All-American from Fredonia State who fell under Paddy McGrath’s mentorship in 2004. Since then he has worked with beginner throwers and most recently developed Tom Reiser and Joey Benedetto to consecutive wins(2017-18) at Millrose Games in the weight throw. Tom emerged as All-American(2017) and Joey finished 2018 ranked 2nd in high school breaking 68 meters in just 15 months training. In 2018, Kevin coached Mark Prysbocki to 2nd place in indoor and outdoor NYS championships at 57’1” and a PR of 156’4” in discus Kevin is proud to send Ashleigh Convery, Ryan Diener, Erin Wilson, and Juliana Tobin to NCAA Division I programs with partial scholarships and looks forward to his continued work with Paddy in developing young throwers
