The computing and communication landscapes are undergoing a radical paradigm shift. As we navigate the deployment of advanced decentralized technologies and look toward the emerging horizons of 6G architectures, ultra-low latency, decentralized intelligence, and hyper-connectivity have become paramount. Modern distributed systems must seamlessly manage vast data floods from an omnipresent Internet of Things (IoT) environment, stretching from autonomous systems to smart industrial ecosystems. Simultaneously, the convergence of Generative AI (GenAI) and Distributed Optimization is rewriting the rules of resource allocation, intent-driven networking, and predictive maintenance. To support this computational load sustainably, the research community is urgently addressing the constraints of Green and Sustainable Computing, steering networks toward zero-carbon and energy-efficient edge-to-cloud continuums. Furthermore, decentralized consensus mechanisms (Blockchain) and emerging quantum network domains are redefining long-term strategies for security, data privacy, and systemic reliability.
Amidst these profound advancements, women engineers and scientists are spearheading foundational research globally. The NWDCN 2027 workshop serves as a critical catalyst to foster collaboration, connect, and elevate women researchers in these fast-evolving sectors. Now in its 9th edition, NWDCN provides a high-impact forum for celebrating technological excellence, sharing state-of-the-art results, and building resilient professional networks among women in distributed systems, networked systems, and mobile computing. While the workshop spotlights and encourages submissions from women researchers (requiring at least one author of each contributory paper to be a woman working in the relevant fields), it explicitly welcomes participation, attendance, and technical collaboration from the entire global scientific community.
