Evan Meade (Founder)

Evan founded NVSD (formerly WFSD) and runs the summer program and private tutoring. He has a passion for public speaking and uses his experience to help his students express themselves. Evan is an experienced debater ranking in the top ten speakers in both the Nations Capital Debate League and the New York Debate League. His teams placed in the top 10 for both leagues in 2019-2021. Evan is also an active and award-winning member of the South Lakes Model United Nations Team competing in various MUN tournaments across the area. He has won numerous verbal and "outstanding-delegate" awards and has also won the coveted "best-delegation" award. In his time running NVSD, he has coached dozens of students who have gone on to join local speech and debate organizations. One of his proudest achievements with his students was when tutored a sixth-grade team that went to a national competition. His students all placed in the top ten speakers and one of them placed first. In addition to speech and debate, Evan has a passion for swimming as he is both a divisional-level swimmer and swim coach. He is a varsity swimmer at South Lakes where he is also a full IB student. Evan looks forward to continuing to coach students of all backgrounds in public speaking.

History

Northern Virginia Speech and Debate was first established as Western Fairfax Speech and Debate in 2021. Following the success of the organization, it has since expanded to offer public speaking opportunities to students all across Northern Virginia. NVSD has held three successful summer sessions raising hundreds of dollars for local community speech and debate clubs. Each of the summer sessions has seen dozens of students from around Fairfax and Loudoun counties learn valuable skills regarding public speaking. Private tutoring was added in 2022 which has seen countless additional students gain confidence with public speaking skills. NVSD is proud to announce that two of its students competed at a national speech and debate competition placing both within the top ten speakers. NVSD will continue to offer future summer sessions and private tutoring options and will help students reach their best potential. NVSD can now proudly claim that it is the top tutoring option for speech and debate in Northern Virginia. NVSD will continue to pioneer new methods in the area of public speaking and give back to other local organizations.
