Bishop Eugene Smith is the fifteenth of sixteen children born to Ira Lee Smith, Sr. and Pearlie Mae (Reeves) Smith on March 19, 1961, in Newman, Georgia, and was raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 10.
A product of the Atlanta Public School system, he attended Luther J. Price High School, graduating in 1979. He was captain of the Varsity Basketball team and was named to the All-American Basketball Team. Bishop Smith continued his education at West Virginia State College, where he studied Electrical Engineering while on a football scholarship. He completed his studies with an A.A.S. degree in Marketing Management and subsequently earned a B.A.
in Business Administration. Bishop received a certificate in Biblical Education from Beulah Heights Bible College in 1997.
He recieved certificates from Harvard University in Christianity, Islam, and Protestant studies.
Bishop Smith is an accomplished drummer, having played for many churches, choirs, and soloists throughout Metropolitan Atlanta. He also served many years as the drummer and Chaplain for the Atlanta Chapter of the James Cleveland Gospel Music Workshop of America.
Bishop Smith received his license to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in October 1981 from the Ira Pure Holiness church of God in Red Oak, Georgia under the leadership of his father Elder Ira Lee Smith, Sr. He was ordained as an Elder on December 30, 2007 by Bishop Miles E. Fowler, Pastor of Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Lithonia, Ga and presiding Bishop of the Refuge Fellowship of Churches and by Apostle C.E White of St. John Apostolic Church
in Tucker, Georgia. In 2012, Bishop Smith was consecrated to the office of Bishop by Bishop Miles E. Fowler.
Bishop Smith has served as: Associate. Minister, Mt Pleasant M.B. Church, Decatur, Ga, from 1992-1995. Assistant Pastor of the Ira Pure Holiness Church from 1996-1997. Founder, Organizer, and Pastor of New Vision of Faith Ministries, Inc 1995 to 2000. Pastor of Mt Pleasant M.B. Church, July 2000 until December 2007. In December of 2007, he reorganized New Vision of Faith Ministries, Inc.
Bishop Smith married Minister Teresa L. Smith on December 30, 1989. He is a proud father to five beautiful children, Karmen, Brandon, Jonius, Justin, and Jocelyn. He has six grandchildren: Briana, Jaden, Justin, Brandon Jr, Laila, and Lily.
