The Northwestern University Intercollegiate Team is a member of the Midwest Conference. There are no specific skating test requirements, however, all team members must be enrolled as full-time students at Northwestern University, have their own skates, and be a member of U.S. Figure Skating.
We practice on select Sunday nights at Centennial Ice Rink. Transportation to and from all team practices is arranged. Additionally, skaters are encouraged to practice independently during freestyle sessions at Robert Crown Community Center and other local rinks.
Skaters on the team have the opportunity to choose whether they want to be competitive or recreational members. All members share the same club ice and practice together throughout the season. Competitive members have the opportunity to travel to intercollegiate competitions to represent Northwestern.
We compete at all three competitions hosted in the Midwest Conference with the hopes of qualifying for the National Intercollegiate Final.
Skaters have the opportunity to compete individually in Short Program, Excel Free Skate, Championship Free Skate, Solo Pattern Dance, Solo Free dance or with other team members in Team Maneuvers. Depending on the athletes’ placement within their group, they earn team points added to a cumulative team point total.
We end the year with the annual NUFSC exhibition in the spring. This is a wonderful opportunity for skaters to perform in a variety of programs, including our competition programs, solos, small group numbers, class routines, and full team performances. This allows us to show off our hard-work, creativity, and growth in front of friends, family, and the Northwestern community.
We hold an open house practice during the first week of fall quarter, providing an opportunity for new and returning skaters to join the team. It’s a great way to meet the team and start your skating journey at Northwestern!
