The Open Questions and Research Tools in Nuclear Astrophysics meeting will take place at Central Michigan University's Biological Station in Beaver Island, in Lake. Located in a sandy beach on Lake Michigan, surrounded by forests and peak summer temperatures of July, it provides an fantastic location for our event.
The CMU Biological Station is the location for research and educational activities throughout the year, and will provide the facilities for our meeting: dormitories and cabins for lodging, a cafeteria for meals, and lecture and lab classrooms for the school and hackathon activities.
We plan to gather participants at Michigan State University in East Lansing on Sunday July 20, for an opportunity to tour the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams at 4:00 pm (followed by a pizza dinner). We will depart to the CMU Biological Station in the morning of Monday July 21 from East Lansing.
Flights to Michigan: Lansing (LAN) is the closest airport to East Lansing and Michigan State University (MSU). The most convenient transportation from the airport to MSU are through rideshare services, or on demand taxi services. Consult the airports website for detailed information (www.flylansing.com). Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is often a convenient alternative to LAN, especially because of its direct connection to several international airports. DTW is 100 miles from MSU, but there is a convenient bus service directly from the airport to downtown East Lansing. Consult the page of the Michigan Flyer for the schedule of buses and to reserve tickets (must be booked in advance): www.michiganflyer.com
Transportation to CMU Biological Station at Beaver Island: Beaver Island can be reached by ferry ride from Charlevoix, which is approximately 200 miles from East Lansing. We will provide ground transportation to Charlevoix, with rides in vans leaving from East Lansing at 9 am on Monday July 21. We will have lunch at Charlevoix and take the 2:30 pm ferry to Beaver Island. The return from Beaver Island will be in the 11:20 am ferry on Friday July 25, with an expected arrival at East Lansing at 6 pm. The organizers will provide the tickets for the ferry ride (www.bibco.com).
Lodging in East Lansing: We will reserve a block of rooms on the campus of MSU. If you need accommodation, either because you will join the tour of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) or to take shared rides on Monday morning, please contact the organizers to secure a room.
Reimbursement of travel expenses: If you are receiving IReNA support for your travel expenses make sure you understand the restrictions and procedures for it. Please contact the organizers (Alfredo Estrade) if you have any question about it.
