The launch of the VERTECS CubeSat with JAXA H3 rocket

Press conference held at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) on 2026/6/26. Launch: 2026/6/12 (JAXA H3 Rocket No.6, Tanegashima, Japan).

VERTECS (Visible Extragalactic background RadiaTion Exploration by CubeSat) is a cube-satellite space telescope jointly developed by National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) and National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), together with JAXA and 13 Taiwan-Japan academic and industry partners. It successfully launched on JAXA's H3 rocket on 2026/6/12 - the first Taiwanese astronomy CubeSat to fly on H3. Over the coming year it will carry out the world's highest-precision observation of the visible extragalactic background light to probe the cosmic "excess light" mystery. The data-receiving, processing and calibration software were independently developed by the Taiwan team. VERTECS is the first space mission of the Ministry of Education UAAT-KOOU program "Space Technology Exploration and Data Science Applications".
