NSU Optics Lab was established in 2017 to create the opportunity and environment for Electromagnetic and Applied Machine Learning Research at North South University. Dr. Mahdy Rahman Chowdhury is the principal investigator of this group. He is currently employed as a Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at North South University. He received his PhD from National University Of Singapore, Singapore.
Dr. Mahdy thinks that teaching is not only a profession but also a great medium of pleasure/enjoyment along with an opportunity to earn and share knowledge. After joining in NSU, he has established the research group (NSU Optics & Photonics and Biomedical Research Group) in NSU with the motivated students, lab instructors and faculty members. This group is mainly investigating the behavior of optical force (Electromagnetics) for biological and simple objects involving complex material backgrounds. In addition, They are also investigating for early disease detection, for share market prediction etc by applying Machine Learning.
After joining NSU, His several articles have been published (among total 11 published journals in 2017-19 with total impact factor over 50) in high impact factor journals with the affiliation of Bangladesh and NSU: (i) Nature Publishing Group’s journal: Light Science and Applications (impact factor 14.098), ACS NANO (impact factor 13.94) and two in Scientific Reports (IF 4.29). He has been featured in the daily Prothom Alo and Maasranga TV recently . He is also an active reviewer of several reputed international journals like Journal of Physical Chemistry C, Annalen Der Physik, JOSA B and IEEE AWPL.
