The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) at UC Irvine is the only University of California institution to have a Chapter recognized by the National NSSLHA— the only organization for students preparing for careers in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology that is recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Because UCI does not offer a CSD program, students pursuing careers as speech-language Pathologists or audiologists experience significant challenges in meeting graduate prerequisites, accessing opportunities for professional development, and connecting with peers who share similar goals. To address this gap, the NSSLHA Chapter at UCI was established to provide resources that help students navigate these challenges. Today, we are the only affiliated Chapter in the UC system and the only student organization at UCI representing students with professional interests in CSD.

We equip members to achieve their goals as future Speech-Language Pathologists, Audiologists, Speech-Language-Hearing Scientists, and professionals in related fields and research. With a mission to promote academic excellence, professional growth, cultural competence, and linguistic diversity, we provide resources and opportunities that empower students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Chapter Membership Eligibility

Any graduate or undergraduate student at UCI, regardless of their field of study, is eligible to become a member of our Chapter.

We are an excellent fit for students and researchers pursuing not only the CSD field, but also fields such as linguistics, child development, special education, cognitive science, psychological science, various other allied health careers, and even otolaryngology (ENT).

National Membership Eligibility

National membership is different than Chapter membership. The dues for National NSSLHA membership are separate from your chapter dues and member eligibility requirements may differ. Please visit the National NSSLHA website to learn more: www.nsslha.org/membership/
