Towards a new future :

Theatre-Museum –

With cultural-history being regarded as a rich source of understanding the heritage and the cultural tradition of a country, materials stored in an archive may be made use of in the fullest possible way from a spectator’s point of view.

The Sansthan is setting up a ‘Theatre Museum’ at Natya Bhavan with financial aid from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, “under the Museum Grant Scheme”.

The archival materials are means of understanding factors that build an intangible experience of theatre on stage. The moment on stage is short-lived, it remains in the mind, in photographs, in print and at present, digitally. But all the varied informations when curated and exhibited will go beyond the realm of academics and the stage. A theatre museum will pave the way for the understanding of the socio-cultural history of theatre in India.
