Why particular tools were selected ?
For this project, four different AI tools were selected based on their unique strengths and capabilities.
ChatGPT was used as a research and learning tool to gather detailed information about the artist Alexander Calder, including his background, artistic behavior, design philosophy, and creative approach. This information helped in understanding the artist’s personality and inspired the development of a studio environment that promotes relaxation, creativity, and productivity while reflecting a modern architectural style.
Gemini was selected as a visual design assistant. It was used to generate conceptual images and explore how design ideas could be translated into realistic architectural forms. The generated visuals helped in understanding possible spatial arrangements, building shapes, and design features that could be applied in a real-life project.
Perplexity AI was used to support the documentation process. It helped in organizing and writing detailed descriptions of the design development, research findings, and project decisions in a clear and professional manner suitable for client presentations and project reports.
Canvas AI was used to create presentation materials and visual layouts. It provided an effective platform for presenting the final design concepts, illustrations, and project outcomes in a visually appealing and professional format.
The selection of these tools allowed the project to benefit from a combination of research, visualization, documentation, and presentation capabilities, resulting in a more efficient and comprehensive design process.
How Al influenced decision-making
AI played an important role in influencing the design decision-making process throughout the project. After conducting the site analysis, I provided the AI with detailed information about the environmental conditions, including the direction of sunrise and sunset, prevailing wind patterns, tree locations, vegetation quality, and the most suitable building orientations and facade treatments.
Based on this information, the AI helped analyze different design possibilities and provided recommendations on how the building could respond effectively to the site's environmental conditions. It also assisted in relating the design to the personality and working style of the sculptor who would use the building. Through this process, AI supported decisions regarding building orientation, spatial organization, natural ventilation, daylighting strategies, and user comfort.
Rather than making decisions independently, the AI served as a design assistant that provided guidance, alternative solutions, and valuable insights. This helped me evaluate different options more efficiently and make informed design decisions that balanced environmental performance, functionality, and user needs.
How outputs evolved through refinement
The outputs evolved through an iterative refinement process. Initially, AI generated broad ideas and general design suggestions based on the project requirements. As more detailed information was provided, including site analysis data, environmental conditions, user needs, and design preferences, the outputs became increasingly specific and relevant. Each new question and follow-up discussion helped refine the previous responses, leading to improved design solutions. This gradual process allowed the project to develop step by step, transforming initial concepts into more detailed and practical design proposals that better responded to the site conditions and the sculptor's requirements.
