From this experience, I have developed a clear position on the role of AI in architectural learning and design. I believe that AI is a very powerful supportive tool, especially in the early stages of a project where ideas are still being explored and developed. It helps me quickly understand key concepts, organize information, and generate initial directions for design. In topics such as passive cooling strategies in tropical architecture, AI can effectively highlight important principles like cross ventilation, shading devices, building orientation, and material choices in a structured and easy-to-understand way. This makes the learning process faster and more efficient, especially when dealing with complex environmental and design considerations.
However, I also recognize that AI has limitations. The information it provides is often general and does not fully reflect real-world architectural complexity. It usually lacks deeper analysis, site-specific considerations, cultural context, and technical accuracy required in professional architectural work. Because of this, I believe that relying only on AI would result in incomplete or superficial design solutions. It cannot fully replace the critical thinking, creativity, and decision-making skills that are essential in architecture.
For me, the most important understanding is that AI should be used as a starting point rather than an end solution. It can inspire ideas and guide thinking, but it is my responsibility as a student and future designer to refine, question, and develop those ideas further. This includes combining AI-generated content with personal research, studio knowledge, and real architectural principles to produce more meaningful and context-sensitive work.
In addition, this experience has made me more aware of the importance of critical evaluation. Instead of accepting AI output directly, I need to analyze its relevance, accuracy, and applicability to my specific design problem. This process improves my analytical skills and helps me become a more independent thinker in design development.
Overall, my personal position is that AI should be seen as a collaborative tool in the design process.
