Supreme Parliamentarian
Dr. Sherelene A. Harris, the Parliamentarian of Mu Chapter - Chicago, IL responded to a request for volunteers when the United Credit Union, formerly the United Teachers Credit Union, made an appeal in its spring 2021 newsletter. Dr. Harris applied to participate with the Scholarship Committee; however, her educational and personal background along with experiences as a past national officer in the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. made her the ideal candidate to sever on two committees:
United Credit Union Scholarship Committee – established five $1,000 scholarships for eligible high school graduates during the spring of 2021. Dr. Harris was selected for a two-year term to be a part of the four-member committee. Five scholarship recipients were identified, and the committee will continue working to refine the application process, refine and develop rubrics to evaluate applicants’ total submission. The committee is preparing now for the 2022 scholarship applicants and awardees.
United Credit Union Supervisory Committee - serves as a kind of watchdog for the credit union members. After a meticulous interview process Dr. Harris was selected by the Board of Directors to serve a two-year term on the five-member committee which has extensive responsibilities. Immediate responsibilities included the committee assisting the Internal Audit Department by overseeing and helping coordinate document destruction activities and participating in unannounced credit union branch audits.
Congratulations to Mu Chapter's very own Soror Lois Nelson. She has been elected as the Chicago Teachers' Pension Fund's Recording Secretary and Representative of Retired Members on Nov 12, 2022.
