The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. (NSPDK) is a professional organization of women in the field of education, founded in 1923 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Its mission is to promote the highest ideals of the teaching profession while fostering sisterhood among educators and encouraging the development of youth. For over a century, the Sorority has worked to stimulate professional growth, provide service to communities, and support educational excellence through scholarships, mentoring, and community programs.
The Sorority’s motto, “To Foster a Spirit of Sisterhood Among Teachers and to Promote the Highest Ideals of the Teaching Profession,” reflects its commitment to both education and service.
The Delta Lambda Chapter was founded in 1979 in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, and continues to carry forward the Sorority’s legacy of service, leadership, and scholarship. Since its establishment, Delta Lambda has been dedicated to advancing the goals of NSPDK by supporting educators, uplifting students, and engaging in meaningful community outreach. The chapter provides scholarships, youth initiatives, and professional development opportunities for members, all while embracing the Sorority’s core values of sisterhood, service, and scholarship. Delta Lambda also has the honor of hosting the 2026 Eastern Regional Conference in Atlantic City.
The Sorority’s national service initiatives, known as the Five National Programs, include:
Youth – Programs such as Xinos (young women), Kudos (young men), and Kudos Kappa Omicron Kappa (KOK) provide mentoring and guidance for students.
Education – Supporting teacher development, classroom excellence, and educational equity.
Scholarship – Awarding financial assistance to high-achieving students pursuing higher education.
Service – Engaging in community-based projects and volunteer efforts that uplift families and neighborhoods.
Sisterhood – Fostering unity, collaboration, and professional support among members.
