District Music Department Contacts
Massachusetts Music Associations
The following state wide organizations also provide many amazing performance opportunities that enrich your child's musical education and experience. Participation is optional but encouraged and managed by our schools' music faculty. Check out the sites below and visit our Performance & Events page for more info!
Each year selected chorale and instrumental students are given the opportunity to audition for the Central District of Massachusetts Music Educators' Association (CDMMEA) festivals at the middle school and high school levels.
High School (Senior Festival) auditions are usually held in November with final performance in January.
Middle School (Junior Festival) auditions are usually held in January with final performance in May.
Students who audition and are selected to participate in the Central District festivals are placed into the appropriate Central District choir, jazz ensemble, wind ensemble or orchestra.
Selected students attend 2 nights of rehearsals with student musicians from around the MMEA Central District . They then spend a day preparing for and participating in amazing performances
At the high school level this final concert takes place at the historic and beautiful Mechanics Hall.
Some high school students who are selected for the senior MMEA Central District festival, based on audition scores, may also receive a recommendation to audition separately for the Massachusetts All State Band. If chosen, participating student musicians from all over the state will share an incredible experience at a weekend musical conference ending in a phenomenal performance at the world famous Boston Symphony Hall!

Our middle school and high school band and chorus programs participate in the Massachusetts Instrumental and Chorale Conductors Association festivals held each year .
Student bands and chorale groups are evaluated on their performance, and receive either GOLD, SILVER, BRONZE or MERIT. The groups (and their conductors!) also receive invaluable feedback through educational judges workshops.
Students receive details about MICCA festivals from our school music faculty and are expected and encouraged to attend as part of their class assessment.
Individuals and / or small ensembles may also wish to participate separately in the Massachusetts Instrument Chorale Conductors Association Small Ensemble Festival, providing an invaluable performance and educational opportunity as a soloist, or as part of a smaller ensemble.

Catch Algonquin's jazz bands Monday, March 12 as they compete for the chance to perform at the Hatch Shell this spring! Performance times to be announced on the NSMA Facebook page.
As this is an MAJE event (and not an ARHS concert) please note that your NSMA membership does not grant entrance to this event. There is a small entrance fee collected at the door that supports jazz education in the state
