About me:
Dr. Yao-Hua Ho (賀耀華) is currently a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). He joined the CSIE, NTNU in 2012. Dr. Ho received his B.S., M.S., and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida, U.S.A., in 2001, 2002, and 2009, respectively. From 2009 to 2012, He worked at the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica under Dr. Chen, Meng Chang (陳孟彰) at Advanced Network Technologies and Services (ANTS) Lab where Dr. Ho led the project called Plash: A Platform for Location-Aware Service with Human Computation. From 2006 to 2009, he was the director of Kenson Enterprise Inc. Dr. Ho was also the founder of Hall Solutions LLC., a distributed data solutions company for hospitals and hotels, in 2007.
YAO HUA HO (yho@csie.ntnu.edu.tw) has been an appointed Professor (Tenured) in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE) at the National Taiwan Normal University 2025. He joined the department in Feb. 2012. Dr. Ho received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Central Florida in 2001, 2002, and 2009, respectively.
Dr. Ho has an extensive academic and research background, contributing significantly to various domains in computer science, information engineering, and interdisciplinary research, including Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), Environmental Sensing, Big Data Analysis, Intelligent Vehicles and Transportation, Mobile and Wireless Networks (WLAN/WSN/ MANET/VNET), Wireless Communication Protocols, Software Defined Networks (SDN), Named Data Networks (NDN), Application/System and Platform Design (Grid/ Distributed/Cloud), Mobile Applications (iPhone/Android), Social Network and Computing, Trajectory Pattern Mining, Location Aware Services, Network Protocols, Network Measurements, Database, and Video Streaming and Video-On-Demand.
Dr. Ho's research has been widely published in esteemed journals and conferences, including several papers recognized as best/top papers at various international conferences. Noteworthy articles include "Reinforcement Learning Approach for Adaptive Road Shoulder Traffic Control" (Neural Computing and Applications - Part of Springer Nature, November 2023), “ADF: an Anomaly Detection Framework for Large-scale PM2.5 Sensing Systems” (IEEE Internet of Things Journal, April 2018, 166 citations), and “An Open Framework for Participatory PM2.5 Monitoring in Smart Cities” (IEEE Access, July 2017, 110 citations). These works reflect his commitment to exploring novel approaches in Intelligent Transportation systems and Artificial Intelligence of Thing systems. Dr. Ho's contributions to addressing the COVID-19 pandemic are evident in articles such as "Predicting Risk of COVID-19 Outbreak" (Atmosphere, October 2022) and "COVID-19 Pandemic Analysis for a Country’s Ability to Control the Outbreak Using Little’s Law" (Sustainability, May 2021).
Dr. Ho's book chapter, "Routing Protocols in Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication," published in "Vehicle-to-Vehicle and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Communications: A Technical Approach" (Taylor & Francis LLC, CRC Press, May 2017), explores communication protocols in vehicular networks. Additionally, his collaborative work on a U.S. patent, "Posture Stability Detection System and Detection Method using the SAME," demonstrates innovation in postural stability detection (U.S. Application No. 18/143,873, 05/05/2023).
Dr. Ho has been actively involved in numerous research projects and grants. Notably, his leadership in the project "Expanding Sport Science Research Capabilities and Bridging Research Results" (June 2023 to Present) addresses air pollution concerns through a Healthy Route Recommendation System. Similarly, his work on “Development of Indoor Air Quality Monitoring System for Proactive Control of Respiratory Infectious Diseases” with the Taiwan Center for Disease Control (CDC) tackles respiratory disease prevention by developing low-cost indoor air quality monitoring devices and strategic deployment with real-time data analysis and prediction using artificial neural networks. In the "Creating a Safe Learning Environment in the Age of Respiratory Infectious Diseases Pandemic" project, his work emphasizes the development of indoor air quality sensing devices for educational settings. His commitment to environmental and community well-being is further evident in projects like "Participatory Sensing for Outdoor-Indoor Air Quality Monitoring" and "Biological Impacts of Climate Change on Mountain Regions."
As an experienced educator, Dr. Ho has taught a diverse range of courses at institutions such as National Taiwan Normal University, National Taiwan University, and the University of Central Florida. His teaching portfolio spans topics from Internet of Things and Operating Systems to Advanced Computer Networks. Dr. Ho's impact extends globally, showcasing his dedication to advancing knowledge through research, innovation, and education.
