All road vehicles in the Principality must carry a registration plate exclusive to that vehicle in order to identify the vehicle, owner and other information relevant to the latter. All registration plates must comply with the rules and standards set by the government.
The registration plates are manufactured by A1 Show Plates and are very small compared to other european standard plates.

Private, company or government vehicles:
Private, company or government vehicles use the standard Northern Salabodan vehicle registration plate format AA0 - ZZ999. Inside the private, company, government registration plates exist different colour borders that indicate what the vehicle is powered by. Grey border means that the vehicle is powered by gasoline or diesel, light blue means that it's a standard or plug-in hybrid whilst light green border means that the vehicle is powered by hydrogen or electricity.
Vehicles with no engine (trailers) follow the same format but have no border.
Emergency vehicles:
The different types of emergency vehicles have different registration plate designs and they all follow the same format (except for road assistance) of a one letter prefix and 1-3 digits.
Police vehicles use the standard emergency format with letter P as prefix. This means possible combinations are P0 - P999. The police vehicle registration plates have blue text and border. (Police trailers have no border)
Fire dept. vehicles also use the standard emergency format with letter B as prefix. This means possible combinations are B0 - B999. The fire dept. registration plates have red text and border. (Fire dept. trailers have no border)
Health-related vehicles (ambulance, doctor, vet, etc) also use the standard emergency format with letter H as prefix. This means possible combinations are H0 - H999. Health vehicles registration plates have dark green text and border. (Health trailers have no border)
Road assistance vehicles (tow trucks, mechanics, etc) do not use the standard emergency format. Instead they have 1-2 digits followed by letters VA. This means possible combinations are 0VA - 99VA. Road assistance vehicles registration plates have orange text and border. (Road assistance trailers have no border)
Foreign relations vehicles:
Diplomatic corp vehicles follow the standard foreign relations vehicles format with letters DK as prefix followed by a 2-digit identifier of the embassy the vehicle belongs to and later followed by 2 letters from AA - ZZ. Diplomatic corp vehicles have purple text and border.
Consular corp vehicles follow the standard foreign relations vehicles format with letters KK as prefix followed by a 2-digit identifier of the consulate the vehicle belongs to and later followed by 2 letters from AA - ZZ. Consular corp vehicles have pink text and border.
International organization vehicles do not follow the standard foreign relations vehicles format. Instead, it has letters IO as prefix followed by a 1-digit identifier of the international organization the vehicle belongs to and later followed by 2 letters from AA - ZZ. International organization vehicles have grey text and black border.
Other special plates:
Vehicles that are temporarily registered in the Principality have temporary licence plates. These have prefix Z followed by a number of 1-2 digits. This means the possible combinations are Z0 - Z99. Temporary plates also feature an extra band on the right side indicating the issue date and expiry date of the temporary number. Temporary plates have red text with no border and a yellow background.
Abborre Skärgård:
Vehicles that registered in the region have their own licence plates. These have two letters. This means the possible combinations are AA - ZZ. These plates also feature a different band on the right side in black with the Principality's emblem plus the code ASK. The licence plates are the same sizee and provided by the same manufacturer, they are also issued by NSB-GOV.
Södra Killingön:
Vehicles that registered in the region have their own licence plates. These have one letter (excluding Z) followed by one or two numbers. This means the possible combinations are A0 - Y99. These plates also feature a different band on the right side in black with the Principality's emblem plus the code SKO. The licence plates are the same sizee and provided by the same manufacturer, they are also issued by NSB-GOV.
