Philosophy provides educators with a framework for organizing their teaching, classrooms, and schools they belong to. According to Allan C. Ornstein, the philosophical view of educators reflects an individual’s life experiences, common sense, social and economic background, education, and general beliefs about people. My personal philosophy evolved since I started teaching, and it will continue to evolve as long as there is personal growh, development, and learning from my own experiences and those of others. My teaching philosophy is a blend of Progressivism, Constructivism, and Reconstructionism philosophies.
It is my belief that an effective teacher must have a great understanding of the subject matter being taught as well as of the underlying pedagogical theory. In my opinion, it is an educator's responsibility to stay current in a field, engaging in research and participating in classes, conferences, and workshops that can improve subject matter knowledge. Such teacher must also have good understanding of child psychology and effectively use psychological elements in the teaching-learning process.
Teachers must also know their students and be aware of what students know when they enter the classroom as well as how to build upon it. In any course, teachers should attempt to guide students through the subject matter and facilitate new discoveries. Students should take away new insights, explanations, and skills.
To enable students to reach their maximum potential, teachers have a responsibility to help students develop a growth mindset, strong self-esteem, ethical vaues, respect and appreciation for diversity. To accomplish this, a teacher must establish a nurturing, supportive environment to provide students with knowedge and skills needed in ever-changing society, foster creativity, independence, adaptability, citizenship and the ability to work cooperatively.
My personal goals are to empower children to become competent and independent thinkers and to instill in them the appreciation for Mathematics. My professional goal is to grow in my teaching profession for the benefits of my students by staying current in the evidence based teaching practices, by continuously enhancing my understanding of taught concepts and subject matter, and by learning how to effectively incorporate new technologies, apps and digital tools into my lessons.
My mission is to create a supportive and equitable environment in which all students gain skills, knowledge, and attitude they need to persevere and to solve new challenging situations and complex problems.
