"Knowledge of the world is best learned if constructed and experienced by the learner in an environment that challenges thinking, encourages experimentation and investigation, models learning, and allows risk taking in safety."
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! This year students are invited to enter a world in which mathematics is open, visual, and creative and where many forms of technology and manipulatives are helpful. They will have plenty of opportunities to develop a thinking, conceptual approach to mathematics. Your child will engage in a variety of activities, math labs, puzzles, math apps and games. It is our hope to generate mathematical excitement that combines curiosity, connection making, challenge, creativity, and collaboration.
Mathematics is an extremely engaging, interesting, and social subject. Many times, it is taught as a performance subject and as a subject that separates children into two groups: those who can and those who cannot. I personally believe that everyone can be successful in mathematics as long as they are provided with rich and purposeful tasks, opportunities to collaborate, and a safe and supportive environment. It is our hope that students will learn to appreciate mathematics as an open growth, learning subject and will see themselves as powerful agents in the learning process.
Thank you for your support,
