The NREA Foundation is a philanthropic extension of the National Rural Education Association. The Foundation presents both the Rural Teacher of the Year Award and the Hall of Fame Award, as well as several scholarships. You can learn more about these honors on the Awards and Programs page.
The National Rural Education Association Foundation exists to raise awareness of the unique challenges facing rural schools through gathering resources
building relationships and developing opportunities to recognize excellence for and within the rural education community.
Recognition of the NREA National Rural Teacher of the Year is made possible by donations to the NREA Foundation.
A committee of rural educators reviews submissions to identify and recognize excellence.
Winners are identified in three divisions with awards granted to runners up as well.
Each year a rural educator who has participated and made a significant difference in the work of NREA is recognized for their achievements.
