We took a trip to Utah for the St. George Temple open house and had an extra day to spend exploring the area so we decided on the state park that butts right up to the city. Snow Canyon is a lot like the other parks in southern Utah and Northern Arizona, large red sandstone cliffs and lots of desert creatures.
We started the day with a short but really fun hike to Jenny's Canyon and the Canyon overlook. It's a cool little slot canyon about a quarter mile off the road down an easy sandy trail. The kids had a great time climbing all over the walls in the canyon. The overlook trail starts right at the mouth of the canyon and is just a short way up the hillside and provides a great view of the valley.
Our next stop was at the visitor's center so we could get our Junior Ranger books and badges, which cost $1.00 each, but they are pretty cool looking badges so it's worth it.
We then headed on our way to do the White Rocks amphitheater hike but the kids saw some people on top of one of the little sandstone mountains and said they wanted to climb it too so we stopped at the Upper Galoot picnic area and hiked up a mountain!
After our mountain hike we were all tired and hungry plus it was getting hot so we headed home for lunch. We thought we would spend the rest of the day playing at the pool and doing some pickleball, but we got treated to another adventure. Our friends from AZ were staying here this weekend too and they invited us to go play at the Johnson's farm.
If you've driven the 15 through St. George you've seen the signs for the Dinosaur Discovery Center at Johnson farm. Well, we went to the actual farm not just the section that was donated to make the Discovery Center. Mr. Johnson (grandson of the guy who discovered the dino footprints) let us play with all his cool toys. The kids got to ride a quad, utility cart, skid steer, a small track hoe, and even the same full sized track hoe that was used to discover the dino tracks. Thanks for the fun Tamra!
