Novum Monasterium literally means the 'New Monastery'. During the many ages monastic communities have always been founded to respond to the signs of the time. Even today many men and women still want to join one of the traditional orders, such as the Franciscans, Dominicans and the Benedictines. Isn’t that wonderful ? It proves that God never stops calling people to follow Him.
But the days of today are the days of the great confusion, deception and oppression. For many the path to God has become blurred. Even more got lost and don't know God any longer. And despite all the information and resources available to us on the internet, the ignorance and disbelieve keep growing. At the same time al sorts of pagan believes and occult practises are gaining terrain. Intollerance and indifference to the suffering of others are rampant in today's society. It is a road to disaster. For sure these are very different times that require a totally different response. It is time to make a stand and become a spiritual soldier of Christ.
Novum Monasterium wants to reach out to everyone who wants to revive the spirit that during the many ages inspired so many men and women to follow a life according to monastic tradition. That is of course a life of undivided dedication and unconditional submission to the will of God. It will also be a path on which you actively defend and promote God's work. And it will be a path on which you combat evil where ever it manifest itself. Because it can no longer be ignored that the devil is at work and strengthening his hold on people and nations.
Are you ready to join the battle ? We will be swimming against the tides for sure. Not a very promissing prospect. But someone has to do it ! Don't be afraid because God is at your side.
Novum Monasterium is a community in the tradition of Catholic monasticism. But that doesn't mean you must be Catholic to join or participate. All Christians are welcome ! We all have Jesus in our hearts. An Jesus loves us all. We are all His children, no matter if you are Catholic, protestant or follow another Christian denomination. We embrance the concept of the Universal Church that that is a church of everyone. New bridges must be built. But of course, religious life in Novum Monasterium will be according to monastic traditions and customs, similar to how other Catholic congregations function. After all, during the ages monastic tradition has proven to be a corner stone of the Church by preserving knowledge and passing it on from one generation to the next. That is the value of tradition.
We also intend to maintain close relations with other congregations for guidance and support during the early years of our existance. In time we will develop our own monastic identity of course.
Novum Monasterium wants to be a community that unifies and brings all Christians together in one shared mission and one belief. This is not so different from how the earliest Christian communities came to together. Both men and women can join. And even married couples can particpate and make their contribution. Novum Monasterium wants to be a community in the full sense of the word. For that purpose you can join us in many different ways, from becoming a full-fledged friar or sister to being an oblate or simply a supporter.
Those who wants to choose the path of a consecrated life can make the vows . Of course we need a guideline that keeps us together and regulate how live with each other. For that purpose we adopted the Rule of St. Augustine. Monastic life in the community will be inspired by the Augustinian communities also. Our lives will be simple, humble and poor. By making ourselves small we can better hear and understand the will of God. We like to keep things simple and as uncomplicated as possible, not so different from the early Christian communities. What binds us is our belief in Jesus and a desire to follow Him for the rest of our lives. That also means a desire support each other and to be unified in a shared mission in the service of Christ. To be one in Christ, that is the ultimate reward. It will make us strong in pursuing our mission.
