Since the pandemic broke out, we started working from home. Now the four-day working week is shaking business life in ways that would have seemed preposterous before Covid-19. Last Tuesday it was The Landmark London, which said it was offering a four-day week, on higher pay, to its chefs. The day before that, a British division of Japan’s Canon camera company said they were considering taking the same measure as a pilot policy for its 140-odd staff and UK think tanks said they were recruiting companies for a six-month trial of this very concept.

Less than two weeks earlier, Canon’s Japanese rival, Panasonic, revealed plans to offer its staff a four-day option to improve their work-life balance. In addition, before that, a shorter week was being tested, planned or launched everywhere from the UK’s Atom Bank to Unilever’s New Zealand offices, Iceland, Spain and even the United Arab Emirates.

Nearly half of those without a shorter week say they are more likely to consider the concept than they were before the pandemic, but almost 30 per cent say they would never consider it. These findings chime with those from another known survey of the UK. Only 6% of them had a four-day week and although more than half said their organization was actively considering the idea, a 73% said they thought it very unlikely it would be adopted. Anyway, it still seems hard to imagine how shifting to a four-day week benefits a business. . . Nevertheless, intuition can be flawed that is despite the fact that large majorities thought a four-day week would boost productivity while making employees happier and easier to retain.

Are we about to experience a global change of our way work working?

Since its discovery in 1930 Pluto had been considered a planet, but the IAU — which names astronomical objects — decided in 2006 that a planet must be spherical, orbit the sun, and have gravitationally “cleared” its orbit of other objects. Now scientists say this definition is inaccurate because it is based on astrology which is folklore and not science. The researchers say Pluto should instead be classified as a planet under a definition used by scientists since the 16th century: that “planets” are any geologically active bodies in space. RUSSIA AND CHINA TEAM UP FOR A SPACE ALLIANCE. These two countries have pledged to cooperate with each other to explore space, the moon and asteroids. Many believe this comes as the US has continued to strengthen its outer space capabilities and Space Force. As you may know Russia was the first country to put a satellite in space and four years later send a man into Orbit. This once “Space Superpower” seeks help from the growing China. A HONG KONG PRO-DEMOCRACY NEWS OUTLET HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN BY A POLICE RAID. Six journalists at Stand News were arrested today, after criticizing the Chinese governments and advocating for a democratic government. Stand News was set up in 2014 as a pro-democracy news outlet, this is after the fall of “Apple Daily” which was another democratic news platform. This comes as the Chinese government tries to gaslight and close companies that do not promote the current government. What other censorship is the Chinese government implementing? THE CDC RECENTLY SHORTENED THE ISOLATION PERIOD TO FIVE (5) DAYS FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE COVID-19 SYMPTOMS. This is because recent discoveries prove that COVID-19 shows it’s effects after two (2) or three (3) days of a person being infected. The previous recommendation by the CDC stated that a person who is infected with COVID-19 and without symptoms should isolate for 10 days. Apart from this the CDC said that wearing a mask while outside after the five (5) days is still recommended. More information soon.

THE TALIBAN BLOCK ALL EVACUEE FLIGHTS LEAVING AFGHANISTAN! This is in a dispute of how the Kabul airport is managed and who controls the people who get evacuated out of the country. Apart from this, the Taliban is demanding of the US and Qatar that they allow Taliban Fighters to travel alongside evacuees to work in countries since the Taliban desperately in need of money to maintain their rule. Currently the Afghan economy is completely ruined and the population is starving and freezing during this winter. Another way this could affect the economy is the lack of consumerism across the airports, states and cities. This is due to tourism and the profits the generate to small businesses and stores from around the country. With the lack of tourists comes less earning and less costumers. PUERTO RICAN BROTHER WHO WERE INCARCERATED IN MEXICAN PRISON FOR “RAPE” HAVE BEEN RELEASED! Since August approximately these brothers have been in a Mexican jail after a young woman accused them of rape, while the brothers where on s family trip. Allegedly the brothers snuck out of their hotel room in which their parents were sleeping and went to a bar. In this bar they met they young female whom alleged the brothers had raped her. These news shocked the Puerto Rican public and have created fear in some travelers that might be heading to Cancún. It is quite common in Mexico where some young women allege young unsuspecting tourists have raped them, in order to receive monetary compensation. This of course isn’t always the case but it’s a common practice in these cities. We’ll come back with the statements from the brothers and their horrific experience.

Aproximadamente desde agosto estos hermanos se encuentran en una cárcel mexicana luego de que una joven los acusó de violación, mientras los hermanos se encontraban en un viaje familiar. Al parecer, los hermanos se escaparon de su habitación de hotel en la que dormían sus padres y fueron a un bar. En este bar conocieron a la joven que alegaba que los hermanos la habían violado. Estas noticias conmocionaron al público puertorriqueño y han creado temor en algunos viajeros que podrían estar rumbo a Cancún. Es bastante común en México, donde algunas mujeres jóvenes alegan que turistas jóvenes desprevenidos las han violado para recibir una compensación monetaria. Por supuesto, esto no siempre es así, pero es una práctica común en estas ciudades. Volveremos con las declaraciones de los hermanos y su horrible experiencia.

PUERTO RICO SEES HUGE SPIKE IN COVID-19 INFECTIONS! This last week the numbers of COVID-19 cases and probability of infection in Puerto Rico have seen a substantial rise. The rise of COVID-19 in the island must be due to the agglomeration of citizens in Holiday feasts, family reunions and recent concerts. An example of this could be the Bad Bunny concert that was held in the island less than 2 weeks ago, where more that 25,000 people attended and were closely packed together. Family reunions and air travel has made these numbers raise. This comes as a surprise to many because Puerto Rico is also the most vaccinated among population in the US and territories. A PERFECTLY PRESERVED DINOSAUR EMBRYO FOUND INSIDE A FOSSILIZED EGG! This fossil is being called “Baby Yingliang” which is meant for a fossilized creature in its embryo form. The “Baby Yingliang” fossil dates to the late Cretaceous, putting it at between 72 million and 66 million years old. It was found in southern China and is the remains of a theropod dinosaur called a oviraptorosaur. More info soon!

BREAKING NEWS! PUERTO RICAN RECORD PRODUCER RAPHY PINA IS FOUND GUILTY ON THE CHARGES PRESSED AGINST HIM IN FEDERAL COURT. He is found guilty for the possession of illegal firearms, these charges could include to a maximum of 20 years in federal prison. This verdict was reached by the jury which was composed of seven (7) women and five (5) men. The sentencing will occur on April 1st of 2022, in the meantime Raphy Pina will be under house arrest and will only be able to attend religious activities, get groceries and attend his court hearings. THE COUNTRY OF CHILE LEGALIZES SAME-SEX MARRIAGE! Chile is now joining the 30 countries from around the world in which same-sex marriage is permitted legally. Considering South America is a full of historically conservative countries this a milestone towards equality and freedoms. These were the expressions made by Karla Rubilar who is Minister of Social Development: “Today is a historic day, our country has approved same-sex marriage, one more step forward in terms of justice, in terms of equality, recognizing that love is love,”. We’re glad changes and strides towards the future are being made and hope this inspires other countries to do the same!

Various months after being convicted for the murder of George Floyd, Derek Chauvin pleaded guilty in a federal court regarding civil rights charges related to the death of Mr. Floyd. SOUTH KOREA, NORTH KOREA, CHINA AND THE USA ALL AGREE TO COOPERATE IN ORDER TO “FORMALLY” END THE KOREAN WAR. During the last week these nations have been trying to work together in order to avoid a global conflict, a market crash and to relieve tensions. One of the things that came up during these meetings was the intention to end the Korean War and eventually unify Korea in a peaceful way. Although not everything can be negotiated like the North Koreans wishing for the Americans to leave the South but negotiations can be made. This is most certainly a step in the right direction, lets hope other negotiations continue for the better of all the countries envolved.
