This informal seminar provides PhD students with a supportive and stimulating environment to share and discuss research in progress, exchange feedback, and explore new ideas. Research at any stage can be presented.
Presentations may take two formats:
Full Presentations (50 min) - These sessions allow for a detailed presentation with an open discussion and more in-depth feedback. Suitable for advanced work in progress or full research papers.
Short Presentations (25 min) - These sessions consist of concise presentations, followed by targeted feedback to address specific questions or challenges. Designed for early-stage and ongoing projects, as well as new research ideas.
DURING THE PRESENTATIONS - HOUSEKEEPING RULES:
Even though this is an informal seminar, there are a few housekeeping rules:
For Full Presentations: We will give the speaker 10 minutes before taking any questions. This gives the presenter a chance to lay out the background and context before diving into details, improving the flow of the talk. After those initial 10 minutes, the audience is welcome to ask questions during the rest of the talk and/or afterwards.
For Short Presentations: Since these presentations are more condensed, the presenter will let the audience know if he/she would like questions during the talk or saved for the discussion at the end.
ORGANIZATION:
At any time during the year, PhD students may register for a presentation slot (via the registration form) on a first-come, first-served basis. PhD candidates on the job market have priority in selecting a slot. Students are encouraged to register at least 10 days before their desired date.
T-10 (Wednesday of the week before the presentation, by 1 pm):
Full Presentation speakers must email the Organizing Team their Final Presentation Title, Abstract, and Faculty they wish to invite directly.
Short Presentation presenters must confirm their presentation title via email to the Organizing Team.
This is also the implicit deadline to register for a presentation slot.
T-4 (Monday of the week of the presentation):
The Organizing Team sends a general email announcing that week’s session.
