PRESIDENT: Preside at all meetings. Coordinate the work of the officers and committees. Meet with principal to plan for school year. Oversee creation of new committees as needed. Coordinate staff luncheon on last day of school. Represent the PTA at various events. Serve as a liaison with the school administration. Address parent PTA questions and concerns.
VICE PRESIDENT: Act as an aide to the President(s). Perform the duties of the Presidents in their absence. Help coordinate volunteer reception. Serve as Volunteer Coordinators – solicit and maintain a listing of general PTA volunteers. Support committee chairs in need of volunteers.
SECRETARY: Record minutes of all meetings and post on PTA webpage. Maintain permanent files of PTA minutes and by-laws, as well as other pertinent documentation. Handle general correspondence of the PTA.
TREASURER: Have custody of and maintain a full account of the PTA funds. Keep full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures. Prepare a budget for the school year. Provide a written financial statement at each PTA meeting. Prepare an annual financial report. Serve as membership chair.
BEAUTIFICATION: Chair(s) and volunteers oversee enhancements to the appearance of the Norton School grounds. This includes planting and maintaining the numerous flower gardens, decorating for holidays, and other gardening needs.
BOOK FAIR: Coordinate annual week long Book Fair to promote a love of reading and books. Plan and oversee all aspects of the annual book fair. Coordinate publicity and volunteers. Many volunteers are needed for this event. Family Night is coordinated with the Ice Cream Social.
CULTURAL PROGRAMS: In conjunction with the Norton School staff, coordinates and schedules cultural programs which enrich the school curriculum. Arrange for any needed volunteers, materials, supplies and equipment for the event. Report all events in advance to publicity chair for media coverage.
FAMILY FUN NIGHT – FALL and SPRING: Plans and coordinates “Family Fun Nights” in the fall and spring. These events are social events for Norton families. Help us brainstorm to come up with fun things to offer our families during the school year, such as movie nights, dances, pasta dinners, seasonal craft nights, pizza nights, picnics, and more.
FUNDRAISING: Plan and coordinate fund raising activities held during the school year. Chair(s) collect, review and process fund raising orders; oversee delivery and pick-up of orders; coordinate volunteers and publicity. Past fund raising efforts have included: gift wrap sales, Spirit wear, candles, food sales, and Square One Art. The profits from these fund raising efforts fund the PTA operational budget, sponsor cultural enrichment programs, support field trips, and purchase those extra “wish list” items for the school community.
HELPING HANDS: Helping Hands are parent volunteers who support our teachers by assisting them with various classroom preparation projects. Volunteers meet once a week and are requested to do a variety of tasks, such as making writing journals, putting together weather calendars, and binding different types of work.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Plan and oversee all aspects of the ice cream social. Coordinates publicity and volunteers. Many volunteers are needed for this event. The Ice Cream Social is coordinated with Family Night of the Book Fair.
MEMBERSHIP: Coordinates the membership registration drive, including collecting and processing membership forms and dues. Issues membership cards and maintains a current list of members.
NOMINATIONS: Coordinates filling PTA Board (officer and committee chair) positions. Recruits parents for open positions. Maintains listing of board members (and contact information) for current year and upcoming year. Present a slate of officers at May or June PTA meeting.
OPEN HOUSE TREAT SALES: Coordinates, publicizes and manages sales of healthy treats at the fall Open House nights.
PLANT SALE: Plans and oversees all aspects of annual plant sale, which is held the week before Mother’s Day. Contacts and schedules with local nurseries; arranges for pick-up of plants. Coordinates publicity and volunteers. Many volunteers are needed for this event.
PUBLICITY: Notify local media of upcoming PTA and school events. Work closely with Principal and Committee Chairs. Draft press releases/articles occasionally, with approval of Principal.
ROOM PARENT COORDINATOR: Solicits volunteers to serve as room parents, bakers, chaperones, and general volunteers from each classroom at the beginning of the school year. Compiles contact information by classroom for each teacher.
SCHOLARSHIP: Coordinate Norton PTA Scholarship through CHS Guidance department. Submit scholarship application information. Receive completed applications. Form a committee of parent volunteers to review applications and select the most deserving recipient.
SCHOOL STORE: Our school store sells school supplies of interest to the students. Chair coordinates volunteers to work; purchases supplies; oversees transactions and deposits.
SUNSHINE: This committee recognizes personal events among the Norton staff with cards and/or small gift items to acknowledge such events as births, illnesses, sympathies, congratulations, or any other appropriate recognition. The chair also plans special events to celebrate the start of school, holidays, and Teacher’s Appreciation week, to recognize the efforts of the Norton staff on behalf of our children.
TOWNWIDE PTA: Represent and report on behalf of the Norton PTA at Cheshire Townwide PTA monthly meetings. Attend Norton PTA monthly meetings and report back items of interest to the Norton membership. .
