I have absolutely no idea what I want to do, can you help me?
Yes! That is why this business exists! My services were designed for students who are looking for their next steps in a world of uncertainty . By considering the results of your assessments, combined with getting to know you in our initial interview, I can determine a number of well-suited options for you to explore as part of your education and career planning. If you already have your dream career in mind, I can help affirm your plans or suggest related careers to explore.
The only thing I ask of you is to be honest and open-minded. You never know where your true pathway will lead.
Where will the sessions take place?
It is strongly recommended that all sessions take place in person. This can be in the client's home or a local library / community centre. In some cases, a virtual option can be discussed.
Note: There must always be a parent / guardian present during all sessions.
When is the best time for a career assessment?
Everyone’s situation is different, and we can work with people at any time. However, for high school students considering their post-secondary options, the perfect timing is between the end of Grade 10 and the beginning of Grade 12. By this point, students will have completed the Career Guidance & Career Education course, and it allows plenty of time for university / college visits and applications or getting started with an apprenticeship.
Can you also help with careers in the skilled trades?
Yes! I can introduce students to a variety of skilled trades and the routes to getting started. Did you know that 1 in 5 jobs created in the next few years will be in the skilled trades? I can help students learn about a variety of skilled trades and the route to get started. From high school co-op programs, to OYAP (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship), and pre-trades programs, we can get you moving in the right direction!
What if I am not happy with the results?
Ultimately you know yourself best. The tools used are designed to get you thinking about well-suited career and post-secondary options and provide you with the route to get there. Whether you start the journey, is up to you.
Can't I just see my high school Guidance Counsellor for the same advice?
Speaking from over 15 years experience as a high school Guidance Counsellor, the answer is yes and no. High school Guidance Counsellors do not have access to some of the valuable career assessment tools such as the JCE and JVIS. Many are also responsible for over 400 students, and therefore their dedicated time can be limited. However, your Guidance Counsellor can provide a wealth of knowledge on school / board specific programs that can compliment your educational plan. Your Guidance Counsellor also has the best understanding of the courses offered by your school.
