III. General Course Content for Spanish
Communication based instruction and texts are used in Spanish I, II and III to develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Culture and customs of the Spanish speaking world as well as current events are also important components of all levels. Each level builds and extends skills learning in the preceding levels.
a. Spanish I, II and III: Build vocabulary, grammar and oral skills. Students begin to practice guided writing and may read authentic literature (Realidades Series)
b. Spanish IV, Honors and VAP: Parallel the skill development of a third level college Spanish course in advanced composition and conversation. The course therefore focuses primarily on the mastering of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Students may also begin to analyze literary works. For A’s, B’s and C’s earned in AP Honors Classes, students earn an extra grade point (ie: an A is 5 grade points, a B is 4 grade points and a C is 3 grade points. D’s do not receive an extra grade point).
