(IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION BELOW BEFORE REGISTERING)

Players are responsible for reviewing the tournament schedule, registration requirements, CFC membership requirements, payment information, rules, fair-play policy, and cancellation policy. Please do not register until you have read and understood all tournament information below. 

Date & Time: Sunday, September 6, 2026 at 5:00 PM ET 

Format: CFC Quick Rated (Swiss System) 

Time Control: 10+5 (10 minutes + 5-second increment) 

Rounds: 5 rounds

Location: Lichess.org

Entry Fee: $10.00 CAD

Tournament-Day Registration = $13

Players registering on September 6, 2026 will be charged a $13 CAD late-registration fee instead of the $10.

Schedule & Round Interval

The tournament begins at 5:00 PM ET. There will be a 3-minute interval between rounds, with the next round beginning automatically after all games from the previous round have finished. 

Estimated Finish: Approximately 7:00 PM ET

To participate, please complete the registration form below and submit your payment by e-transfer.

Please try to submit your registration and payment at approximately the same time.

Registration Deadline: Sunday, September 6, 2026 at 3:30 PM ET 

When sending your e-transfer, include the player's full name and CFC ID in the message. Please also include "NCC September Rapid September 6" so we can correctly identify the registration.

Once your registration and payment have been confirmed, you will receive the information needed to participate in the Lichess tournament.

Tournament Entry Code: An email containing the Lichess tournament entry code will be sent to all confirmed players approximately 1 hour before the tournament begins. Please check the email address used during registration. 

Prize Pool: 

50% of all registration fees collected will be allocated toward tournament prizes. The final prize distribution will depend on the total number of registered players and will be announced before the tournament begins. 

Tournament Rules

By registering for the NCC September Rapid, you agree to follow all Northern Chess Club tournament and fair-play rules.

The tournament will use a Swiss pairing system. Pairings will be generated through Lichess, and there will be one tournament section for all registered players.

Byes: Byes may be assigned when necessary according to the tournament pairing system.

Technical Issues

Because the tournament is hosted online, technical issues or a Lichess outage may occasionally affect play. If a significant platform issue occurs, NCC may create a replacement tournament to complete the remaining rounds.

Players will be expected to participate in any replacement tournament when instructed by the organizer. Tournament schedules, pairings, or round arrangements may be adjusted when necessary to ensure the event can be completed fairly.

Cancellation Policy

The tournament requires a minimum of 4 registered players to proceed. If the minimum is not reached, NCC may cancel or reschedule the tournament. 

Withdrawal & Refund Policy

Players who are unable to participate in the NCC September Rapid may request to withdraw from the tournament by contacting Northern Chess Club.

Refund Policy:

• Withdrawal on or before September 5, 2026: 100% refund

• Withdrawal on September 6, 2026 before the tournament begins: 50% refund

• Withdrawal after the tournament has started: No refund

Refunds are based on the amount actually paid by the player. For example, a player who paid the $5 Early Bird entry fee and withdraws on tournament day before the event begins would receive a $2.50 refund.

Players who simply do not attend the tournament without notifying NCC before the tournament begins will not be eligible for a refund.

If NCC cancels the tournament, registered players will receive a 100% refund of their entry fee.

To request a withdrawal or refund, contact northernchessofficial@gmail.com and include the player's full name and CFC ID.

Please register only if you reasonably expect to participate. Tournament entry fees help NCC organize the event and determine the tournament prize pool.

Important

Please make sure the information submitted during registration matches your official CFC information. Incorrect or incomplete information may delay your registration.

Cheating & Fair Play

Northern Chess Club takes fair play very seriously. All players are expected to compete honestly and follow the fair-play policies of both Lichess and the CFC.

Players may not use chess engines, computer assistance, outside analysis, opening databases during games, or receive assistance from another person while a game is in progress.

Lichess may review games and player accounts using its fair-play detection systems. NCC may also review suspicious games or activity when necessary.

If a player is found to have violated the fair-play rules, appropriate action may be taken, including removal from the tournament, forfeiture of games, suspension from future NCC events, and reporting the matter to the CFC organization when required.

By registering, players acknowledge that fair play is an essential part of NCC tournaments and agree to cooperate with any fair-play review.
