NCXC 2025 Recap
While the physical demands of cross-country are wearing, the mental side of the sport is a whole different monster that has to be tackled. Unlike sports such as football, volleyball, track, and basketball, every field in cross-country is uneven, and athletes never know what you’re going to encounter. The team battled the elements, physical discomfort, and shown incredible resolve and determination.
NCXC represents the “Dirty ” mentality down to a tee.
Down at its core, cross-country is a sport where the mind is the only thing one is competing against. In essence, it doesn’t matter what the other athletes are doing. Instead, our athletes have to strive for their personal best. Self-improvement is at the forefront of what this sport is about. But, even with all of the individuality in cross-country as a sport, our NCXC team was able to bond, just like a family, which makes the experience that much more special.
The success of of the 2023 NCXC season was a culmination of all the forces that have brought these athletes together: desire, commitment, focus, sacrifice, suffering, self-discipline, hard work, and responsibility. As a result course records were run by all athletes which is a direct reflection on their shared investment and effort towards success as an individuals and as a team. As a result of their participation in NCXC these athletes now:
Recognize themselves as people who are learning to take responsibility for their lives, people who are learning to control their own destinies.
Have gain the habits of winners: setting goals, working hard, doing your best, being patient, persistent and focused, which are lesson’s that they will have the rest of their lives.
Have learned that by making a commitment, laying it on the line, and taking a chance, pays off more often than not.
Understand that competition is not an anti-social act, but a social one, and that to give your best is part of the social contract.
Are fundamental victors because no matter what happens in life they always have their NCXC family to come back to.
That the sport they choose will never leave them; taking them down avenues of achievement and success that they cannot yet imagine."
NCXC 2022 Recap
This years athlete's showed what happens you believe in yourself. When you believe in yourself you can: do great things; be part of a team that is more like a family; and make a difference on a team. As a result, this team made history, with a record number of personal best and season breaking records.
This year's team, more than any other team I have coached, grasped that we had the potential to make a difference. So why run when you’re not number one?
It doesn’t matter how fast you are, because when you put your heart and soul into something, when you sacrifice day after day, month after month, year after year, you realize just how grand the world and the people that inhabit it are, how valuable life itself is. How could anyone be dissatisfied with that.
Run as one. Work as a team. Finish as a family.” This is Northern Cass Cross Country moto. It is more than just a sport. It’s a family. When I assumed the role of head coach for the boys and girls cross country program my goal was and is to provide opportunities for the athletes to cultivate relationships at practice, on the course, and outside of training. I believe Sam Bosch wrote it best “These past few years have taught me so much about leadership, sportsmanship, dedication, confidence, generosity, hard work and mindset. Sometimes these were direct lessons but other time I learned by example.”
Northern Cass School is host to a fledgling cross country program; having fielded a team for only 7 seasons. For the 2020 season, the team was the largest that it has been; doubling in size from the previous season to a roster of 18 participants. This number includes two seniors, two juniors, five freshmen, and nine junior high participants. Our athletes enjoy a strong sense of camaraderie with one another. With such a large population of underclassmen, the Northern Cass cross country program has much to look forward to
