Your Curriculum

Planning and agreeing your remote curricular offer

Reflective questions to consider as you plan and implement a high quality curriculum offer at a distance.

Key Questions

The Scottish Government's advice on Curriculum for Excellence sets out the commitment to a locally developed curriculum which takes into account the local circumstances of the school community. In considering your remote curricular offer, it may be worthwhile considering the following key questions:

  • How is the curriculum delivered? – focussing on learning across literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing will be the key priority, with increasing learning experiences across the four contexts and wider curriculum.

  • How do we ensure that Early Learning and Childcare continues to be delivered in a way that is consistent with Realising the Ambition, with child-led, play-based pedagogy driving practice?

  • How will the principles of quality, play and outdoor learning continue to guide the curriculum?

  • How will a variety of pedagogical approaches within progression frameworks be incorporated to ensure high quality learning experiences?

  • How will effective assessment and feedback accompany these learning experiences?

Assessment and feedback are integral to the learning and teaching process, even remotely. Ensuring assessment is efficient and effective can be challenging.

There will be an ongoing need for a focus on health and wellbeing and the key principles of nurture as we return to school. You may wish to seek support from your Educational Psychology Service.

Consider how you will ensure consistency, continuity and progression and how next steps in learning are identified for all. This will be supported by the progression frameworks.

Maintain clear channels of communication with staff, pupils and parents/carers. Continue to work closely with your Parent Council to ensure they are fully aware of expectations and arrangements.
