We compete in different event topics specific to FCS (Family Consumer Science) classes which include subjects such as culinary arts, finance, fashion design, interior design, and much more. We also focus on leadership and community service while focusing on teaching students skills that will be useful in their adult life.
People can participate in STAR events and other skill based events which have different competitive categories such as human services, hospitality and tourism, education and training, and visual arts and design. Information on competitive events can be found here on FCCLA's national website.
Most events don't require any prerequisites however some specialized competitive events do need prior background on the competition topic to be able to perform the needed requirements such as culinary arts.
Most events have a 90 point total which will include the project, portfolio, and presentation. Another ten points are added on top for check-in points. The score sheet can be found in the competitive event guidelines. They usually have either a 3 or 5 point scale for different components and guidelines which judges grade you on.
The levels are:
Level 1 - Members through 8th grade.
Level 2 - Members in 9th and 10th grade.
Level 3 - Members in 11th and 12th grade.
Level 4 - Postsecondary members.
You will compete in levels based on the grade you are in.
Meetings will be held weekly, join our remind linked at the bottom of this page to keep up with updates!
Project parties are fun after-school sessions which gives members time to work on their project. These events are usually held before competitions.
