The foundation of North Wilkes's band programs is the Concert Band. In high school, a concert band is offered in the spring semester. It is a more classical, sit-down band; these students work on their technique and musicality while preparing music for a concert performance. These students also go to MPA and Carowinds during the semester to play their music for judges and receive a score. The same things can be anticipated for middle school, except it is a year-long concert band class.
The Marching Band is offered in the fall semester and is a competitive, outdoor band. These students spend many hours learning and preparing music and movement to perform on the field. They take their show to multiple high school competitions to win awards and school recognition. MIDDLE SCHOOLERS MAY PARTICIPATE IN MARCHING BAND - Contact Mr. Robinson if interested.
The Color Guard is open to students interested in dance, choreography, and movement. It is a vital part of the marching band and rehearses after school. Appointment to the color guard is by audition only, and auditions are usually held in April or May.
