Alaska State Hockey Association Official ScoreSheet
HOW TO COMPLETE THE PAPER SCORESHEET
Write clearly in ink. Record information as the game occurs and verify all entries and totals before the completed ScoreSheet is signed.
BEFORE THE GAME
1. Enter the date, scheduled game time, location, period length, and game number.
2. Circle the correct division: 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, or 18U.
3. Circle the appropriate classification shown on the scoresheet.
4. Check the appropriate game category: League, Exhibition, or Tournament.
5. Enter both team names.
6. List each player’s jersey number and full name, or attach the approved roster sticker. If a listed player will not participate, draw one line through that player’s name on every copy.
7. List the coaches and other authorized bench personnel. Before the game, each team’s coaches must sign the scoresheet. One coach must be designated as the head coach, and the required CEP number, certification level, and year attained must be included.
SCORING BY PERIODS
Enter the scheduled period length. Record each team’s goals for every period, including overtime when applicable, and calculate each team’s final total.
RECORDING GOALS
Beginning with the first available scoring row, record:
• PER — Period in which the goal was scored
• CLOCK TIME — Time displayed on the game clock
• GOAL — Jersey number of the player who scored
• ASSIST — Jersey number or numbers of the assisting players
• TYPE — Special scoring situation, when applicable
Common goal types include:
• PP — Power play
• SH — Shorthanded
• EN — Empty net
• EA — Extra attacker
If more than 15 goals must be recorded, use a second scoresheet. Mark it “Page 2 of 2” and repeat the date, time, division, classification, location, game category, and game number at the top.
GOALTENDING
Record each goaltender’s jersey number, shots faced, and saves for every period. Add the period totals to complete the game totals.
If the goaltender changes, record the period and exact game-clock time of the change in the Remarks section.
RECORDING PENALTIES
For every penalty, record:
• PER — Period
• NO. — Jersey number of the penalized player
• SB — Jersey number of the player serving the penalty, if different
• OFFENSE — Penalty or infraction
• MIN — Length of the penalty
• OFF — Game-clock time when the penalty was assessed
• START — Game-clock time when the penalty actually begins
• ON — Actual game-clock time when the player returns to the ice or bench
The OFF and START times will normally be the same. They may differ when penalties are served consecutively or when another penalty must begin first.
A minor penalty and misconduct assessed to the same player must be recorded as two separate penalty entries.
For a misconduct, record the actual game-clock time when the player returns after the misconduct has expired and the next stoppage permits the player’s return.
REMARKS
Use the Remarks section for important information that does not fit elsewhere, including:
• Goaltender changes
• Injuries
• Timeouts
• Game misconducts or match penalties
• Players removed from or unable to continue in the game
• Other significant incidents
Include the team, player’s jersey number, period, game-clock time, and a brief factual description whenever applicable.
AFTER THE GAME
1. Confirm every goal recorded for each team.
2. Verify the scoring-by-period totals and final score.
3. Review all goal, penalty, goaltending, and Remarks entries.
4. The official scorer and official timekeeper sign their designated lines.
5. The referee reviews the completed scoresheet for accuracy. The referee and other on-ice officials then sign the appropriate lines.
6. Distribute the completed copies according to the applicable league, rink, or tournament procedure.
This is a quick-reference guide. Current Alaska State Hockey Association, Anchorage Hockey Association, USA Hockey, league, and tournament procedures take precedence.
ELECTRONIC SCORING WITH GAMESHEET
GameSheet is AHA’s electronic ScoreSheet system. A designated iPad is used to confirm team rosters, record shots, goals, and penalties, obtain officials’ signatures, and upload the completed game.
The AHA Scoring Access Key is provided privately to authorized scorekeepers. It is not published on this website.
LOAD THE GAME
1. Connect the iPad to the internet. If arena Wi-Fi is unavailable, connect it to an Apple or Android phone’s personal hotspot. GameSheet uses very little cellular data.
2. Open the GameSheet Scoring app.
3. Select + New Game, then Load from Schedule.
4. Locate the correct game and select Load Game.
5. When the game loads, have a coach from each team review and approve the roster:
• Select Home Roster or Visitor Roster.
• Review all players and jersey numbers.
• Mark absent players as Sitting Out, Injured, Suspended, or another appropriate status.
• Select the team’s starting goaltender.
• Make any necessary roster corrections by selecting the player and following the prompts.
If a team changes goaltenders during the game, select Change beside the team’s goaltender and choose the goaltender currently on the ice.
6. At least one coach from each team must sign the approved roster:
• Select Sign beside the coach’s name.
• Have the coach sign with a finger or stylus.
• Select Save.
7. Repeat the roster review and signature process for the other team.
8. Review all displayed Errors and Warnings. Correct lineup errors before beginning the game. Common issues include a missing starting goaltender or missing coach signature.
9. Select Game Details and confirm:
• Teams
• Game number
• Location
• Game type
• Period lengths
• Any additional periods that may be required
Additional periods can only be added from the Game Details page.
10. Set Start Time to the actual time the referee drops the puck to begin the game.
