16th Nordic Summer Symposium in Macroeconomics (Normac) 2024

Call for papers, Normac 2024, August 6-9

The Nordic Summer Symposium in Macroeconomics (Normac) is an annual 3-4 day conference in macroeconomics. Submissions are encouraged in all topics within macroeconomics, and acceptance will be bases on merit. We envisage around 35 participants, including both speakers and discussants.

Objectives

The symposium is an academic research conference in the area of macroeconomics. It is primarily aimed at promoting frontier contributions by junior macroeconomic researchers. The symposium allows the junior researchers to present and discuss their research and to receive advice and constructive criticism from more senior macroeconomic scholars.

Plenary speakers

Monika Piazzesi and Martin Schneider, Stanford University.

Venue

Snekkersten is a former fishing village north of Copenhagen and in the vicinity of Elsinore (Helsingør) and Kronborg, Hamlet’s Castle. The conference will be held at Comwell Borupgaard. The hotel is situated a few hundred meters from a public beach. The venue is easily reached by train/bus from Copenhagen Airport or Copenhagen Central Train Station (approx. travel time: 1 hour). We assume all participants stay the whole conference arriving at lunch on August 6 and leaving after lunch on August 9. If you cannot stay the whole conference, please inform us when you apply.

Topics

Papers on all topics broadly associated with macroeconomics are welcome including monetary economics, business cycles, labor markets, financial frictions, growth etc. and issues such as public finance, human capital accumulation, firm dynamics, asset pricing, heterogeneous agents, income distribution, credit markets and political economy.

Who should apply

The conference is primarily created to promote and facilitate the work of junior researchers. Researchers with an interest in or connection to the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) are particularly appreciated but the call is open to all junior applicants. Junior refers to those about to graduate from a PhD program, assistant professors, and recently tenured senior professors.

Paper submission procedure

Interested applicants should fill out the online application form. Please also indicate in your application whether you would be prepared to serve as a discussant of a paper. The deadline for submissions is Sunday April 7, 2024.
