Green STEAM

Nordplus Junior project "Green STEAM" is a project which focuses on relevant environmental issues in Nordic and Baltic countries. It gives an opportunity for students to gain knowledge about ecological sustainability and its influence on other aspects of life like environment, ecology and culture. It helps target groups to acknowledge that environmental sustainability means the understanding of a common ecosystem model. The participants will become aware that all systems on Earth are interlinked, all its components are valuable and should be preserved and maintained.

The project focuses on learning through STEAM, which is an educational approach that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics as access point for guiding students' inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking. With the STEAM method the subject will be covered from different points of view.

The project will be coordinated by Novida upper secondary school and will have three class exchange weeks, one in Latvia, Lithuania and Finland, during the school year 2019-2020. The main activities of the mobility weeks will be related to environmental issues, reusable materials, food production and consumption as well as environmentally friendly farming. They will gain knowledge about the newest technologies and raise awareness of future professions. During the project the students in different countries will see that we have the same problems and together we can make a change. The language of communication is English allowing the students to increase their English skills in a motivating and meaningful way. They will also have an opportunity to make lifelong friendships.
