Most relevant findings from the project: Final report
Why visit?
IC - to see full implementation of Apple product use and new learning environment
GR - to see webconferencing, how to be connected when remote, student teachers
LV - to understand how CLIL works and how Skype lessons work
EST - cyber security, various technology use from drones to robotics
Environment
Similarities – school is for the students and everyone deserves good education. You should teach student not subject. Teachers must learn to be more as a nice person, who sets goals, believe that wherever you teach you are good teacher. Change is hard to older teachers. Relationship teacher and students have changed.
Differences – curriculum is different, how its forced and how its created. Possibilities to change and write the curriculum for their schools differ. Learning spaces are different, example in Iceland we saw a lot of good examples of well, cave and fireplace.
Recommendations
Gender balance in teaching is important and also culture is important to understand history and values. Curriculum should be written by those who understand the school and have connections to it, but also sees the overall picture what is good for EU but for their local situation and identity. Integrated learning in the curriculum is still weak. CLIL would be the solution for learning different languages and culture.
Technology
Similarities – content and need for interactive materials it is similar, locally every country makes good effort to have better technologies and bets for students and children. Technology is used for communication. Dependent of internet.
Differences – technologies used Apple and Android, management systems are different. Countries have different fund possibilities. Costs for technology and internet differs.
Recommendations
Virtual reality is the future. Teachers should be explained the pros, not that much the cons. Cyber security might be alos one of the future challenges.
Teacher training
Similarities - Subject teachers are nowadays in disadvantage as teachers are expected to teach life. Technology training is still hard (how to use, but also what and how it relates to curriculum). Teachers are learning through workshops, conferences, team working. Every teacher must do professional development. Every teacher wants to learn as well student, meaningful things.
Differences – some countries are using web conferencing systems better than others. Platform for exchange experiences, materials. How teacher training is paid is also different, some apply others have school budget for it.
Recommendations
Psychology and child development training with universities is more and more important. Need for e-earning materials save money for teaching content use.
Student empowerment
Similarities – we all feel that active students are vital to implement new technologies to school life. Students are empowered to share their expertise and help others. Students should be better and learn themselves and not waiting that someone else will teach them.
Differences – student’s possibilities, language skills and how teachers accept their empowerment.
Recommendations
Teachers belief and encouragement helps students to flourish whatever they set their mind to. They should learn to do more than teachers demand or ask from them. Teachers don’t want to be wrong, show to be incompetent and do meaningful things.
Other
Recommendations
GDPR - IC, LV, GR does not allow taking pictures of students at school, EST ask the students when there is a situation. All have asked permissions form the parents. Depending where the pictures goes.
Cyber security must be teacher to teachers, students. Problems with bulling and other use of social media, it’s our everyday reality. It influences our teaching and learning. The problems with social challenges and communication affects the learning. Solutions are related more explaining the borders and understanding learning situations, ethics.
Future projects
· Dance and culture, singing projects
· Teacher ethics should be discussed. Self-presence online.
· Using web tools to communicate each other’s
· Life without internet and too much internet.
NordPlus
Recommendations: give more money that countries don’t need to put that much effort and self-funds.
It has been a good project; the goals were met. New projects can be applied with both students and teachers. Will visit each other Erasmus and other funds. Sharing contacts with teachers is important, but also that local authority has information that these projects are happening and being part of it.
