The Noise Whisperers project was started by our pseudonymous founder, Dr. Atlas Rests, a research scientist in Germany who purchased a very modest home with his wife, their long-time dream, only to learn within months that a chorus of barking dogs was destroying their health and wellbeing. Worse still, the municipal authorities simply did not have the policies or even the basic conceptual tools to remotely fix the systemic problems that led to this situation. During this time, our founder used his background in the sciences of human behaviors, minds, and cultures, to look deep into the historical and global discussions on neighborhood noise in general, and the perniciously complex issue of barking dogs specifically. What he learned shocked him, even as his life unraveled in the face of relentlessly erratic exposure to canine noise pollution. In February 2025, one year after moving into their home, our founder and his wife recognized their modest dream of home ownership was dead, their home was essentially unlivable in relation to their everyday health. Unlike many other victims of noise pollution, they were fortunate enough to be able remove themselves from their home and retreat to a family home for a week to organize alterative housing and strategize how to sustain their basic sanity. During this brief but deeply peaceful phase of exile, Dr. Rests decided to launch The Noise Whispers as a new vision for globally connected science-based advocacy for the victims of noise pollution through a combination of content creation and networking. Dr. Rests has decided to remain pseudonymous as the weight of navigating his own personal noise nightmare does not need the added stress of having a potentially politically contentious online presence. His expertise is in the field of human sciences more broadly, and given the weighty complexity of noise pollution, he asks for relative privacy as he helps shape and share a more scientific approach to this complex ethical issue.
Join us! We welcome free membership for all who are interested in making the world a better place for those who want or need just a little bit of peace in their home environments.
