Dear Friend, Jan 24, 1876
It is with pleasure that I take my pen in hand to let you know that I received your kind letter which found us all well.
I haven’t much to write, only I must tell you what a time I had a Christmas and New Years. A Christmas I stayed at home. We had a turkey roast and oyster supper and New Year’s I went to Corunna and stayed all night and went to meeting and on Monday night after New Year’s, I was to a turkey roast and Tuesday night I was to a oyster supper.
Well, we haven’t any sleighing here this winter. I wish we would have some soon for I want to take a sleigh ride yet this winter.
Well Eliza {Lydia Ann Eliza Hutchins} was here last Sunday. She says that big meeting commences tomorrow at the brick church. I wish you and I could be there. I think that I shall go up there and stay a day or two while meeting lasts.
Well, I am piecing quilts this winter. Well, you wanted to know when I had seen John last. I have not seen him since the Fair last October.
I haven’t heard how the watch meeting went of this year. I don’t know anything about the animal come down the tree this year. (Note: they called New Year’s Eve “watch night”).
Tell Analiza {Lydia Ann Eliza Hutchins} to not fall in love too deep with them pretty boys so that she can’t get back here again.
Well, I must bring my letter to a close for my pen and ink is so poor that I can hardly write. You must excuse my mistakes and write soon.
