AVILLA - Barbara Rose "Barb" Hippenhammer, 75, lifetime Avilla Resident and former Avilla Town Board President died on Wednesday, May 29th, 2013 at 9:30 AM at her residence in Avilla after a brief illness with her family at her side.
Barb was born on October 11, 1937 to William and Victoria (Case) Fischer. As one of 12 children, she grew up on the family farm in Avilla. She lived her lifetime here, graduating from Avilla High School in 1955.
She met her husband, Richard A. "Dick" Hippenhammer and was married on June 18, 1966. Together they raise two children, Joann and Richard in Avilla. Dick died on July 13, 2003.
Barb retired from the accounting department at General Telephone after 21 years of service, and also worked as a customer service rep at Community State Bank.
Barb was Avilla's first woman Town Board President, was an active member of the Avilla American Legion Women's Auxiliary, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avilla. Her grandkids were her life, she adored watching them play ball. She was an avid golfer and card player. Barb had many friends and loved ones that will miss her.
Surviving are her daughter and son in law, Joann M. and Jeff Sparkman of LaOtto. Son and daughter in law, Richard A. and Shannon Hippenhammer of Avilla. Grandchildren, Kyle Johnson, Tanner Hippenhammer, Kendall Hippenhammer, Jeffrey Sparkman Jr., and Zach Sparkman.
Brothers, Donald (Connie) Fischer of Fort Wayne, Charles Fischer of Leo, and Steven Fischer of Fort Wayne. Sisters, Ruthie (Kent) Ihrie of Wolcottville, Nancy Lamb of Auburn, Roberta Montel of Avilla, Alice Huth of Fort Wayne, and a sister in law, Nancy Fischer of Avilla. Along with a host of nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Suzi Q.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, sisters, Janette Fischer, Irene Delong, Deloris Lamb. Brother, Tom Fischer, brother in law, Donald Huth and sister in law, Sherry Fischer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Avilla. Father Daniel Chukwuleta will officiate.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 and 6-9 with a Rosary service at 5:00 at Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla Chapel. Visitation is also one hour prior to the Mass on Monday.
Burial following will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Avilla. Casket bearers will be her brothers, Charles, Donald and Steve, grandsons, Tanner, Kendall, and Zach, friend Matt Strowmatt. Honorary casket bearers will be all of her nieces and nephews.
