Dear Sister, May 30, 1874
I have not received a letter from you for a good while. I am going to school now. Our teacher name is Mary French. Like her real well. Henry Troupe is teaching school and Frank Wisman too. I would like to see you all but I guess I can’t come out for a while.
We got two cows now. 2 black ones. We did not make much sugar this spring. We got a Sunday school at Dimondale at 4 o’clock and at our School house Friday night and at Dimondale School house last night. It was a crazy man. He was to our school house. There was about 5 or 6 there, I didn’t go. It was children 10 cts and grown people 20 cts. I was working out for a dollar a week. I work 3 weeks.
Has Mikes {Michael Stahl?} moved yet? I heard that he was going to sell. Move where Liddie lives. The people is going to build a church in Dimondale. We got some new neighbors in here. Mr. Masks (spelling?) and a Mr. Marear. They live in Robins house and Mr. Mask in Elmer Frenchs house.
I am alone now. Pa {John Troupe} has gone to the river and Amos {Amos Troupe} has gone to Armstrongs. I guess a Ma {Rebecca Troupe} has gone to meeting and I am alone. I am a going to Sunday School this afternoon. I have got to hurry for it is getting late. How are you getting along? We’re all well now at present. When I went to Sunday School I had (unreadable?) teachers. The second Sunday I went, I had 35 verses.
How is Harriet getting along? Is Malissie married yet?
Pa {John Troupe} has a cousin coming out here. Sarah Rudesill and Clark. Her name was Sarah Troupe before she was married.
Write soon. Do you want to take the Woods Magazine? I wish you would take it. It is a book and I want to get 4 subscribers. I have a new pair of shoes and a new hat. Ma {Rebecca Troupe} has a new dress and a new hat. Please send me a piece of all kinds of your dresses.
