Dear Cousin,
I take this present opportunity to inform you that we are all well at present and hoping that when these few lines come to hand, they may find you enjoying the same blessings. I have received your letter and was glad to hear from you. I am going to start to school next week, and I am almost afraid to go for fear of getting a tanning the first day.
It is raining now and I think it will turn to snow and then I wish you was here to go riding in my new Sleigh. We have no more parties around here since you went away, but I think there will be one about Christmas.
Well, I have not been to Newark and so I have not got my photograph to send. But as soon as I get it, I will send it and then I want one of your in return.
I tell you, I had oh lots of fun after you started away from Newark that morning. When I went to hitch up to go home another train come in and the little sorrel jumped over the wagon tongue three or four times before I could get her hitched up. And after I was ready, the horses wanted to run off.
Well, would like to know how all the folks are getting along out there, and whether you are coming back this winter.
First when you went away the days seemed to me as months. I would like to be with you now and talk of old times, and it may be that (if you do not come back this winter) I will come out that way between this and spring.
Well, I must bring this scribbling to a close. And don’t forget to write and let me know how the world uses you and so no more at present from me.
Sophronia Troupe from her cousin,
Write soon
Noah Daniel
