Description: New construction of a two-story, single-family residential building.
ARC Recommendations 12/15/20: The ARC voted to defer this application for additional review. The ARC made the following recommendations:
The detailing of the building should be simplified so the building is more contextual. This can be achieved by eliminating the dentils, removing the paneling on the columns, etc.
The proportions of the entablature need to be further studied to better reflect typical historic entablature proportions.
The porch columns should be rectangular with the long dimension facing the street.
The windows at the front elevation should either be true full-length windows, with sills at floor level, or have more traditional 3’-0” sill heights.
Head heights at the first floor should be 9’-0”.
The door should be shorter with a transom above to meet the 9’-0” head height. The proportion of the glazing in the door should also be adjusted; the glass pane should be shorter with a larger solid panel below.
The second floor floor-to-ceiling height should be increased to 10’-0” for better proportions. The head heights on the second floor will need to be increased to 8’-0” accordingly.
More windows need to be added to the right-side elevation (at least two).
A 6’-0” porch depth would be preferable as it makes the porch more usable.
The detailing of the side entry porch also needs to be further studied and refined.
When planning the design of the adjacent building of 719 Teche, the floor plans should be oriented the same way as “sister” buildings rather than mirrored.
