Marco Evola, Italy
Marco is a tango DJ since 1998 and has been working in Italy and in other European countries. He proposes traditional music and appreciates to provide simplicity because “the leading figure of the night is not the DJ… but the milongueros and the music…”.
Alan Twigg, UK
I'm incredibly passionate about tango music and love playing tandas that move people to dance. As dancers we are all searching for those moments of flow when everything comes together. I strive always to listen to my enthusiastic heart more than my head when choosing the next tanda.
Jonathan Yamauchi, San Francisco, CA
Jonathan has DJed in excess of 600 milongas at numerous venues over the past 12 years. Jonathan DJed the Pioneer Encuentro 2018, and will be DJing Encuentro Milonguero SF 2019, The Newport News Encuentro 2019, and Encuentro Port Townsend 2019. His extensive DJing experience has allowed him to develop a highly attuned feel for the selection of the music, the energy of the dancers and the timing of the tandas -- facilitating the silent conversation, the sustained connection and highest levels of consciousness between dancers.
Marcos Christodoulou, Santa Barbara, CA
The DJ has the most important job, yet must be the least noticed. Just like the true milonguero cares first for his partner, then for his pleasure, never for the crowd, everything the DJ does is in service to the music, the tradition, and the dancers. The tandas must be danceable, appropriate to the moment… and good!
He mostly plays music from the golden age, spiced with choice Guardia Vieja and 50s selections.
Jae Youn, Durham, NC
Jae, an accomplished dancer and an effective teacher and organizer, is a well sought out DJ in the Southeast area. She has been invited to DJ at various events including the Chicago Mini Tango Festival and Charlotte’s Candlelight Tango Festival. Mark Longerbeam, Baltimore, MD
Mark Longerbeam is a cofounder of El Otro Beso Tango movement in Baltimore and has been teaching there for nine years. He has DJed over 500 milongas in the past 12 years in the Baltimore, Philadelphia and DC region including the Argentine Embassy.
Mark Mindel, Charlotte, NC
Tango captured my wife Kim and I six years ago. The beautiful music of tango has held my interest since our first tanda. It inspired me to create Impulse Tango to connect dancers, organize milongas and DJ our own events, to grow tango. I have now designed and constructed my own portable dance floor specifically to open new venues indoors and outdoors in which to dance tango.
Marc Becraft, Seattle, WA
Marc started DJing in Seattle about ten years ago. He has DJ’d in Canada and Nevada and is one of the regular DJs at Cachirulo, a popular Friday milonga in Seattle. He especially likes traditional tango music from the 30’s to the 50’s. Marc loves watching people enjoy dancing to beautiful music and believes that the joy is fostered by consistent moods within a tanda (rhythmic or melodic) and by the contrast of musical styles between tandas.
Vincent (the Llama) Lam, Vancouver, Canada
DJ Vincent has been dancing Tango for 10 years and DJ’ing for the past 5. He lives in Vancouver, Canada and has DJ’ed throughout the Pacific Northwest at local Milongas, including Marathons and Encuentros.
He calls himself a staunch Tango neo-tradionalist.
His motto is know the rules, follow the rules then break them.
Andy Stein, Newport News, VA
My wife Olimpia and I have been hosting free weekly milongas, practicas and lessons at our home since 2010. I have been the DJ at my own events, our Tango Marathons and Encuentros since 2015 and other local milongas. My music selection is golden age traditional, 1935-1955.
