Bands at NMSA are offered year-round and are divided by grade levels. Students in 6th through 8th grade will learn how to read music, play an instrument and perform at community concerts and events throughout the school year. Students who wish to participate in Mariachi or Jazz Ensembles are encouraged to sign up for band.

Band is a class that meets daily. This will take up the elective spot on your schedule.

New this year is Mariachi Aguilas! Students will learn fundamental technique of Violin, Guitar, Vihuela, Guitarron or Trumpet in an after school program where students will be immersed in the music of Mariachi. This ensemble will be offered beginning September 9th after school in room B118.

Students who are in band are encouraged to join Mariachi. Rehearsal times are as follows:

New this year is NMSA Jazz! Students will explore the fundamentals of improvisation and play exciting and challenging music covering swing, rock and latin styles of music. This ensemble will be offered beginning in January 2020 based on student interest.

Students who participate in the Jazz band must play a band instrument or piano, drum set, guitar, or bass.
