NMHU Psi Chi
About Us
New Mexico Highlands University Psi Chi is proud to have held its 75th anniversary in 2023. Formed in 1948 as the 1st chapter in the state of New Mexico, the 41st chapter in the United States, and 50th overall chapter internationally. It was installed by Dr. Anna Martin with its first induction ceremony in Kennedy Hall in 1948 with 30 members. Dr. Anna Martin is noted as one of the first faculty sponsors, along with then Psychology Chair Dr. George M. Peterson and was formally accepted by then university president Dr. Edward Eyring
Through the years, Psi Chi has offered opportunities for networking, professional development, and community service for the students at NMHU. It has helped them develop various skills and qualities and build their knowledge and understanding of psychology through their academic activities, guest lectures, and discussions.
Membership
Membership in Psi Chi is obtained through the completion of 3 semesters of coursework, 9 credit hours in psychology, and an earned rank in the upper 35% of the undergraduate class at NMHU, based off of the total Arts and Sciences student pool. Additionally a minimum of a 3.0 psychology GPA is required for all members. Graduate members must be enrolled and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Current members may transfer membership from other institutions and need not reapply.
