The Old Legion
This building was constructed in the 1890’s and was used by the local militia to store rifles, guns, and other equipment.
During the First World War, the building was enlarged and used by the Women's Institute as a canning factory to send food overseas.
The Parkhill Branch of the Legion was founded in 1944 in part by former Parkhill Old Boy and Ontario Command President Thomas Magladery. The branch received its charter in 1945, and held meetings in the second floor of the building that is now Second Blessings. In 1946, the Legion purchased this building and hosted many bingo nights and other social events for the 43 years it was located here.
In 1992, the Legion relocated to the former LCBO building on Broad Street, and the old Legion building was sold to Gary McLinchey in 1994, who operated Country Collectibles.
In 2025, the building is occupied by P.A.B.A. Pet Corner.
Beside the building, on the grassy lot to the south, were the lawn bowling greens. In 1927, eight new greens were built on lots to the east, behind the Armoury building. The bowling club used the Armoury as their club room until a club house was built between the old and new greens, behind the Legion, in 1948. The bowling greens were closed in the 1960s due to dwindling players, and the property sold soon after.
