Hawkey Carriage Works
This lot and the lot where Foodland currently sits was once the location of Hawkey Carriage Works. Hawkey Carriage Works consisted of a series of connected buildings including a blacksmith’s shop, a manufacturing building, and a show room.
In 1917, J.J. Hawkey rented the blacksmith's shop to Harry Mawson, who later bought the building and operated it with his son, Basil, for many years. The building was eventually torn down in 1978 to build the Parkhill Community Credit Union.
The building then housed the Parkhill Wellness Centre and Thomson & Hamilton Accounting before its current occupants.
