Lickity Split
Prior to being an ice cream parlour, this building was occupied by a bakery.
Since 1914, at the latest, John Robinson owned this building and ran the Robinson and Sons Bakery. In 1930, Robinson sold the building to W.P. Thompson, who ran the Maple Leaf Bakery from this location. The Thompsons converted the north side of the bakery into an apartment in the 1930s.
In the 1940s, the building was sold to Ken Haggerty who in turn sold the building to Harold Johnstone in 1950. The business was renamed Johnstone's Bakery. In 1978, Harold Johnstone's son Jim and wife Janet took over the business until its eventual closure in 1998.
Philip and Alice Bruce bought the building soon after and opened up Lickity Split in 2001. The business has definitely become very popular amongst the locals.
If you look closely at the side of the building, you can see a faded sign which says "Bakery".
