Turn around to go south on Craig St, then cross Main St.
Site is on the southeast corner of Craig and Main St, the current location of Home Hardware.
Prior to 1900, Joseph Rosser had a hardware store and tinsmith shop on this corner.
In 1920, Fred J. McLeod and his wife, Annie, bought the hardware store from William Jelf and moved their family here from London.
In 1964, McLeod retired, selling his business to his son Don and his wife Hazel, who ran the business with the assistance of their sons, Lyle and Ross. In 1965 they joined the Home Hardware buying group.
In 1969, the old frame building was bulldozed to make way for a new modern cement block store, and the new store was opened on March 19, 1970. In 1974 a warehouse was added to complete the building, which stands today.
After 65 years of business in Ailsa Craig, McLeod Hardware was sold to John McCallum in 1984, then to Ron and Sherry Harwood in 2008.
Mark and Che Dooreleyers took over the business in 2021 and have been running it since.
