This residence was once the Falstaff Hotel. This hotel was considered a traveller's hotel, which meant it was used for a short stay for people passing through.

It included a dining room, which likely served alcohol, and around 3-4 rooms for guests. 

This is the last Ailsa Craig hotel that remains standing, although now it is a single family residence.
